Here is the fact that shapes everything else in this comparison: no UAE takaful operator publishes a motor rate card. Every single one prices by quote, so the shopping process is not "find the cheapest list price," it is "know what each operator is worth a phone call for, collect three quotes, and ask the questions the brochures dodge." This guide does the first part for you, using our August 2026 crawl of all nine active operators.

What is identical everywhere
UAE law requires at minimum third-party liability cover, and every operator sells a TPL tier plus a comprehensive tier adding own-damage, fire and theft. Claims machinery is standard across the market: police report, mulkiya, driving licence. The takaful mechanics are also common: your contribution enters a participant fund as a donation, the operator takes a wakala fee (capped at 35%, disclosed only in your contract), and claims draw on the pool. If those mechanics are new to you, read how takaful works first.
The operators, honestly ranked by what we could verify
Watania Takaful General: the claims proof and the published limits
Watania is the only operator with a nine-figure catastrophe payout on the record: over AED 200 million of motor and property claims honoured after the April 2024 floods. Its published benefit levels are also the market's most concrete: AED 2 million third-party property damage limit, AED 4,000 occupant emergency medical on comprehensive, optional natural calamities and riot covers (the add-ons the flood year taught everyone to want), and family-member driving inclusion. Esaad cardholders get up to 20% off comprehensive. If you carry that card, this quote often wins.
Abu Dhabi National Takaful: the strength pick
ADNTC carries A.M. Best A- for ten consecutive years and Fitch A- for four, the segment's only rated operator at that level. The product is competitive: optional natural perils, windscreen, Oman territorial extension and rent-a-car, with the personal accident add-on priced transparently through the ADIB channel at AED 120 for the driver plus AED 30 per passenger. Fazaa cardholders get up to 20% off. The garage network (15+) is smaller than mass-market rivals. If a total-loss year worries you more than a hundred dirhams of contribution, start here.
Salama: heritage and inbuilt extras
Salama's comprehensive tier builds in personal accident cover for driver and passengers rather than selling it as an add-on, and layers free practical services: off-road assistance, vehicle recovery, battery boost, even a car registration renewal service. You can buy up to 30 days ahead to lock pricing before registration renewal. The company's 2025 solvency episode matters little on a 12-month policy; claims were paid throughout and the restructuring was declared complete in April 2026.
Sukoon Takaful: the governance pick
Sukoon Takaful rides the garage and claims network of its parent, one of the UAE's largest insurers, with 24/7 emergency support, and it publishes the cleanest takaful model documentation in the market. No published motor specifics beyond that, so it is a quote to collect when compliance verifiability ranks high for you.
Orient Takaful: the value dark horse
Orient's comprehensive plan, per aggregator listings, bundles agency repair, natural perils, roadside assistance, rental car, windscreen, personal accident, GCC coverage, off-road cover, personal effects and valet parking on a 13-month term, effectively a free month plus a benefit stack rivals charge for. The catch: the corporate website was down throughout our crawl, the scholars are unnamed, and quoting runs by phone (+971 4 601 7500). Sharp price, zero verifiability; read our special situations review before binding.
Methaq: the recovery discount, with a scam warning
Methaq is one year out of a two-year CBUAE administration and rebuilding share, which can mean keen quotes on its motor-led book. The named scholar committee is a plus. The unique hazard: fraudulent websites sell fake Methaq policies, per the company's own repeated warnings. Buy only via methaq.ae or 600 565 65.
Aman: instant and online, one year at a time
Aman offers genuinely end-to-end online motor purchase and renewal, rare in UAE takaful, and discloses its 33% wakala fee. Its shareholders have been trying to exit insurance since 2023, so treat it strictly as an annual convenience buy. CBUAE portfolio transfer rules protect your in-force policy in any exit scenario.
The quote strategy
- Collect three quotes minimum: your discount-card match (Watania for Esaad, ADNTC for Fazaa), the strength pick (ADNTC), and one value check (Orient by phone, Aman online, or Methaq).
- Quote the add-ons the 2024 floods made non-optional: natural calamities cover, and check the excess that applies to it.
- Ask each operator for the wakala fee clause in the contract before binding. It is legally required to be there.
- Confirm agency repair eligibility in writing: most operators define it by vehicle age at purchase, and the public pages rarely say where the cutoff sits.
For the model behind the product, see takaful vs conventional insurance. For the full market picture, the UAE takaful state of play. Product facts verified 5 August 2026 from operator sites, ADIB key facts statements and aggregator listings; pricing is quote-based market-wide, so treat any premium figure you see elsewhere as a snapshot, not a rate.

Frequently asked
What actually happens at claim time? The best-documented process in the market is Watania's: three documents, the police report, the mulkiya and your licence, submitted via portal or the 800-WATANIA line. Whoever your operator is, the police report is the universal non-negotiable; a claim without one is a conversation, not a claim. Keep digital copies of the mulkiya and licence in your phone now, not after the accident. And before renewal, re-check two numbers against your quote: the third-party property damage limit, where Watania's published AED 2 million is the market's visible benchmark, and any natural calamity or riot add-ons, which the April 2024 floods turned from exotic options into questions every UAE driver should ask. Discounts matter too: Esaad cardholders get up to 20% off comprehensive at Watania, which routinely decides the comparison for government employees.
