Our Analysis
We tracked 37 Islamic deposit products from 12 UAE providers in August 2026, and the gap between headline and core rates is the story. Campaign rates look generous: ADIB Ghina at 5.25% expected, Al Hilal Savings Plus advertising up to 5.1% with fresh-fund tiers to 7%, FAB Islamic up to 4.00% on new money. But core declared rates tell another tale: Emirates Islamic's standard Investment Savings declared 0.35% for Q1 2026 and its prize-linked Kunooz just 0.10%. The same bank can sit at both ends of the market depending on which account you open.
Disclosure quality is the other divide. Emirates Islamic publishes a rolling 8-quarter declared rate table, Mashreq Al Islami's Key Facts Statement prints the actual profit-sharing ratio, and DIB publishes historical rates for its savings products. Others publish only a link to customer profit rates or nothing at all. For committed money, the Wakala grids are the most transparent products in the market: DIB prints 3.40% for 18 months and 4.30% to 4.40% for 3 to 5 years, and SIB's Flexi Long Term advertises up to 4.80%.
Practical guidance: keep everyday money in a Qard current account or no-minimum digital account (Ruya has no minimums at all), chase campaign savings rates only if you meet the fresh-funds and salary-transfer conditions, and remember the UAE has no retail deposit insurance, so the institution's strength is part of the comparison.
Banking is just one of 7 categories. Average score: 63/100.
See yoursHow Islamic Banking Works in the UAE
Qard current accounts, Mudarabah savings pools, Wakala deposits, and the disclosure that separates good banks from labels
Mudarabah Savings
Your deposit joins a pool that finances the bank's Islamic assets, and profit is shared per a pre-agreed ratio. Declared rates vary hugely: Emirates Islamic's core savings declared 0.35% for Q1 2026 while ADIB's Ghina campaign advertised 5.25% expected.
Qard Current Accounts
Current accounts hold your money as an interest-free loan to the bank: fully repayable on demand, earning nothing, invested only in Shariah-compliant assets. Ruya documents its current account as Qard explicitly.
Wakala Term Deposits
Fixed-term deposits where the bank invests as your agent at an agreed expected rate. DIB publishes 3.40% for 18 months and 4.30% to 4.40% for 3 to 5 years; Emirates Islamic's Booster grid runs to 3.25%.
CBUAE Shariah Governance
Every Islamic bank and window is licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE and runs an Internal Shariah Supervision Committee under Higher Shari'ah Authority oversight. The UAE has no NDIC-style retail deposit insurance scheme.
Digital Islamic Banking
Ruya (the UAE's newest fully Islamic bank) opens accounts in under five minutes with UAE PASS, SIB Digital onboards with an Emirates ID scan and selfie, and Al Hilal runs entirely inside its super app.
Prize-Linked and Salary Accounts
ADIB's Ghina and Emirates Islamic's Kunooz run millionaire prize draws alongside profit. DIB's XTRA salary account pays a joining bonus of up to AED 16,000 for UAE nationals (AED 9,500 for expatriates).
Choosing the Right Halal Bank Account
Understanding Islamic Banking Returns
Current vs Savings Accounts
Islamic current accounts operate on a Qard basis: the bank safeguards your money and pays no return. Savings accounts use Mudarabah profit-sharing, where you earn a share of the bank's declared profit pool, and term deposits mostly use Wakala at an agreed expected rate. August 2026 campaign savings rates ran up to 5.25% expected (ADIB Ghina), while core declared rates at some banks sat below 0.5%.
Compare declared rate histories, not just campaign banners; the good banks publish both.
No Deposit Insurance
The UAE has no NDIC-style retail deposit insurance scheme. Deposits are protected by CBUAE prudential supervision of licensed banks, not by a government insurance fund, so the strength and license of the institution matter directly.
Rates Move With Market Conditions
Expected and declared profit rates track market rates over time, and campaign rates expire: FAB Islamic's 4.00% new-funds rate runs to 31 August 2026 and Al Hilal's 4% to 7% tiers cover July to September 2026. Never project a campaign rate forward; compare banks on their standing declared rates.
Which Islamic Bank Account Is Right for You?
You want the highest expected savings rate
ADIB Ghina advertised 5.25% expected (5.55% with salary transfer) and Al Hilal's Savings Plus up to 5.1%, both campaign-conditioned. Check the fresh-funds and balance conditions before moving money.
You're parking a lump sum for 1 to 5 years
Compare the Wakala grids: DIB pays 3.40% expected for 18 months and 4.30% to 4.40% for 3 to 5 years from AED 10,000 to 25,000 minimums; SIB's Flexi Long Term advertises up to 4.80% at AED 200,000 minimum.
You want zero minimums and app-only banking
Ruya opens a no-minimum Qard current account in under five minutes with UAE PASS; SIB Digital and Al Hilal's super app are the other app-native options.
You're moving your salary
DIB's XTRA salary account pays a joining bonus of up to AED 16,000 for UAE nationals (AED 9,500 for expatriates), and salary transfer unlocks better rates at ADIB and Emirates Islamic.
You're saving for your children
DIB Shaatir (no minimum, no maintenance fee), ADIB Banoon (Mudarabah, AED 1,000 opening, no fall-below fees), and the youth accounts (ADIB Amwali, Emirates Islamic ALPHA) are purpose-built.

Quick Answer
The best Islamic bank account in the UAE depends on whether you want the highest expected rate or the strongest disclosure. As at August 2026, ADIB's Ghina Savings advertised 5.25% per annum expected (5.55% with salary transfer), Al Hilal's Savings Plus up to 5.1%, and SIB's Flexi Long Term Deposit up to 4.80% for committed terms. Current accounts run on Qard (no return, no riba risk); savings accounts run on Mudarabah profit-sharing; term deposits are mostly Wakala at published expected rates. All providers are CBUAE-licensed with Internal Shariah Supervision Committees, and the UAE has no retail deposit insurance scheme.
Key Takeaways
- Returns come from Mudarabah profit-sharing or Wakala agency, not promised interest; campaign rates ran up to 5.25% expected while core declared rates at some banks sat below 0.5%.
- Wakala term deposits publish the clearest pricing: DIB at 3.40% (18 months) to 4.40% (5 years), SIB up to 4.80% (24 to 36 months).
- Prize-linked accounts (ADIB Ghina, EI Kunooz) trade core yield for draws: Kunooz declared 0.10% for Q1 2026 alongside a monthly AED 1 million draw.
- Digital onboarding is mature: Ruya, SIB Digital, Al Hilal, and FAB Islamic all open accounts with an Emirates ID in minutes.
- The UAE has no NDIC-style deposit insurance; depositor protection rests on CBUAE prudential supervision of licensed banks.
