The best Islamic credit card in the UAE for cashback is the Emirates Islamic Cashback Plus Card: up to 10% on groceries, education, dining and telecom, AED 313.95 a year unless you spend AED 30,000, and unlimited lounge access. For airline miles, compare the ADIB Etihad Guest Visa Platinum at AED 2,000 with the Emirates Skywards DIB Signature at AED 1,500. For a salary under AED 8,000, the DIB Consumer Cashback Reward Card opens at AED 5,000 with 3% back on essentials. Every card below is a covered card built on a Shariah-compliant sale rather than an interest-bearing loan, and the monthly profit rate on an unpaid balance runs from 2.99% at ADIB to 3.69% at DIB and Emirates Islamic.

What a covered card is and how the monthly charge works

A UAE covered card looks like a credit card and is accepted like one, but the money behind it is created by a sale contract rather than a loan. DIB's cards use Salam: you sell a quantity of commodities to the bank for future delivery, the bank pays the sale price in advance into a Wakala investment account in your name, and that balance is what you spend. FAB Islamic's card runs on commodity Murabaha, with a fatwa from its ISSC linked on the card page. ADIB's tariff board describes its monthly rate as the profit rate that applies in case there is a Murabaha, meaning a commodity sale is executed only when you carry a balance. Emirates Islamic publishes a monthly profit rate per card without naming the contract on its fee page. The Islamic credit cards explainer covers the fiqh; this page compares the cards on sale.

DIB's Key Facts Statement gives the clearest worked example of why the charge is not interest. On a AED 10,000 limit at 3.69%, the monthly sale price difference is AED 369; if you used AED 5,000, Wakala profit of AED 184.50 is credited on the unused limit and a discretionary rebate of AED 5.54 applies, so you effectively pay AED 178.96. Pay the full balance by the due date and DIB's rebate removes the charge. ADIB states on its tariff that profit can be waived partially or fully upon payment at the bank's discretion. The economic effect of carrying a balance is still a cost of around 3% to 3.7% a month, which the halal personal financing guide warns is higher than any Islamic personal finance rate.

Fees are taken from each bank's own schedule. Emirates Islamic quotes AED 299 excluding VAT on its card list and AED 313.95 including VAT on its fee page; DIB's KFS prints AED 261.45 and AED 210 inclusive of VAT against AED 249 and AED 200 on the product pages. ADIB's tariff lists fees without VAT. Three more DIB cards belong in the picture: the Emirates Skywards DIB Signature at AED 1,575 inclusive from a AED 15,000 salary, the Skywards Platinum at AED 525 from AED 10,000, and the DIB SHAMS Signature, free in year one and waived thereafter on AED 30,000 of annual spend, paying 5% back on dining and travel as Wala'a rewards.

Which card wins for cashback

Emirates Islamic Cashback Plus wins on headline rate and on what comes with it. Up to 10% on four everyday categories, in the UAE and abroad, with 1,200 or more airport lounges, two golf rounds a month, valet parking, Salik auto top-up and purchase protection, for a fee that disappears if you spend AED 5,000 in the first 90 days and AED 30,000 a year after that. The card page does not print the monthly cashback cap on the page we fetched, so ask for the cashback terms before assuming 10% on a large grocery bill. Switch Cashback from the same bank pays a flat 4% on supermarkets, dining and education and 8% on fuel, which is simpler if you drive a lot.

FAB Islamic Cashback is the strongest window card: 5% on groceries, fuel and dining with no minimum per category, 3% on international spend with no cap, 1% on the rest, AED 300 a year from a AED 5,000 salary. The caps are the catch: AED 200 a month per category for UAE nationals and AED 150 for expatriates, AED 1,500 and AED 1,000 in total, and AED 3,000 of monthly spend to qualify. ADIB's Cashback Visa pays a flat 4% across grocery, fuel, education, dining and utilities, and ADIB has the lowest monthly profit rate in the table at 2.99% with salary transfer, which matters only if you carry a balance. Al Hilal's Cashback card lets you pick two categories for 5% with 1% elsewhere, capped at AED 500 a month, but Al Hilal does not publish the fee or salary floor on the card page.

Which card wins for airline miles

For Etihad, ADIB. The Etihad Guest Visa Platinum at AED 2,000 a year carries a companion ticket, Etihad Guest Gold fast track, lounge access, valet parking and a sign-up bonus the page advertises at up to 150,000 miles; the Visa Infinite at AED 3,000 adds up to 3.5 miles per AED 4, a class upgrade voucher and airport transfers; the Gold at AED 1,000 is the entry point with Silver fast track. ADIB's tariff lists the standard annual fees at AED 500, AED 1,000, AED 2,000 and AED 3,000 across Classic, Gold, Platinum and Infinite. Emirates Islamic's Etihad Guest Premium at AED 1,575 inclusive and Platinum at AED 208.95 are the alternatives if you already bank there.

For Emirates Skywards, DIB and Emirates Islamic are close and ADIB is the premium option. The Emirates Skywards DIB Signature costs AED 1,500 before VAT, needs a AED 15,000 salary, earns 1.5 miles per US dollar on Emirates, up to 1 mile on foreign currency and 0.75 on local spend, and pays 15,000 bonus miles on activation plus 15,000 on a AED 30,000 balance transfer held six months. Emirates Islamic's Skywards Signature costs AED 735 inclusive, earns the same 1.5 miles on Emirates and flydubai, 1.1 on international and 0.75 on domestic spend, with one valet parking a month. ADIB's Emirates Skywards Visa Signature at AED 1,500 and Visa Infinite at AED 4,500 add a home check-in service in Abu Dhabi and Dubai that ADIB says no other UAE card includes. Both DIB and Emirates Islamic earn reduced miles on government, supermarket, utility, education and fuel spend, 0.15 per dollar at DIB.

Which card wins for a salary under AED 8,000

DIB publishes its salary floors, which is why it wins here. The Consumer Cashback Reward Card opens at AED 5,000 a month and pays 3% on supermarkets, automobile servicing, Etisalat and du bills, fuel, utilities, Salik and Nol top-ups and school fees, with a AED 200 fee that is currently waived in year one and a requirement to spend AED 3,000 of retail in a statement cycle to earn anything. From 10 October 2026 the supermarket and school fee caps on this card fall to AED 200 a month each. The Prime Platinum opens at the same AED 5,000 with no annual fee in DIB's KFS, earns 2 Wala'a rewards per AED 1 on retail, and includes roadside assistance and travel takaful cover of up to US$100,000 when you book flights on the card.

FAB Islamic Cashback also opens at AED 5,000 and is the better pure cashback card at that salary if you can meet AED 3,000 of monthly spend. ADIB and Emirates Islamic do not print a salary floor on their card listing pages, so apply with your salary certificate and ask; the salary transfer comparison explains how transferring salary improves card approval at both.

Cash on card and cash advance rules by issuer

  • ADIB charges 3% of the amount withdrawn with a AED 99 minimum, and its tariff counts transfers of the card cover to an ADIB account and spending at securities brokers, including National Bonds purchases, as cash withdrawals that earn no rewards.
  • DIB charges 3.15% of the transaction on cash withdrawal, AED 26.25 on international ATM withdrawals, and treats cryptocurrency, foreign currency, money orders and stored value loads as cash; cash on card, balance transfers and easy payment plans are separate instalment products.
  • Emirates Islamic charges 3.15% or AED 103.95, whichever is higher, caps each cash advance at AED 10,000 or 50% of the card limit, and prices cash on call and balance transfers at up to 3.50% a month with a processing fee of up to 3.49% and AED 157.50 to settle early.
  • FAB Islamic and Al Hilal link a schedule of fees from their card pages; neither prints the cash advance fee on the page itself.

Late payment on every card is a charity donation rather than a bank fee: AED 100 at ADIB, AED 131.25 at Emirates Islamic and AED 236.25 at DIB, each routed to a charity approved by the bank's Shariah committee after collection costs. The minimum payment is 5% of the balance or AED 100 at DIB and 5% at Emirates Islamic. Foreign currency transactions cost 2.30% at ADIB, 2.54% at Emirates Islamic and 3.70% at DIB, with a further charge on AED-denominated transactions processed abroad at all three.

What each issuer does not publish, and the KFS to ask for

ADIB does not publish minimum salaries on its card pages and prices its cashback cards at three different fees without a page explaining which variant you will be offered. Emirates Islamic publishes fees and rates but not salary floors or the monthly cashback cap on the Cashback Plus page. Al Hilal publishes the reward structure but neither fee nor rate on the page. Ajman Bank lists its Ultracash, BRight and Life cards without fees on the listing page. Under CBUAE consumer protection rules every issuer must give you a Key Facts Statement before you sign; DIB's runs to ten pages and includes a five business day cooling-off option and a 0.94% a month Credit Shield takaful opt-in. Ask for it, and compare the fee table on the last page rather than the product page. The personal financing hub lists where each KFS is published.

Verdict: which covered card to carry

If you pay in full every month and spend mostly on groceries, school fees and dining, carry the Emirates Islamic Cashback Plus and hit the AED 30,000 annual spend so it costs nothing. If you drive and fuel is your largest category, Switch Cashback's 8% on fuel or FAB Islamic's 5% with its AED 200 monthly cap will beat it. If you fly Etihad, the ADIB Etihad Guest Visa Platinum at AED 2,000 is the card with the companion ticket; if you fly Emirates and already bank with DIB, the Skywards DIB Signature at AED 1,500 with 30,000 bonus miles is the pick, and Emirates Islamic's Skywards Signature at AED 735 is the cheaper way to the same earn rate.

If you earn between AED 5,000 and AED 8,000, take the DIB Consumer Cashback Reward or the DIB Prime Platinum, both published at AED 5,000, or FAB Islamic Cashback at the same floor. If you ever carry a balance, ADIB's 2.99% with salary transfer is the lowest published monthly rate, but the right answer is to not carry one. Use the comparison page to set two cards side by side. Frequently asked questions

Which is the best Islamic credit card in the UAE for cashback?

The Emirates Islamic Cashback Plus Card, which pays up to 10% on groceries, education, dining and telecom, includes unlimited lounge access, and costs AED 313.95 a year unless you spend AED 5,000 in the first 90 days and AED 30,000 a year after that. FAB Islamic Cashback pays 5% on groceries, fuel and dining for AED 300 a year from a AED 5,000 salary, capped at AED 1,500 a month. ADIB's Cashback Visa pays a flat 4% across five categories.

Are ADIB covered cards halal?

ADIB's covered cards are approved by its Internal Shari'a Supervisory Committee, whose five members the bank names on its site. The monthly profit rate, 2.99% with salary transfer or 3.09% without on most cards, applies only when a Murabaha is executed on an unpaid balance, and ADIB's tariff says the profit can be waived partially or fully on payment. Late payments trigger a AED 100 charity donation rather than a bank fee. Smiles cards are described as free of Murabaha profit charges.

What is the minimum salary for a DIB covered card?

AED 5,000 a month for the DIB Consumer Cashback Reward Card and the Prime Platinum Card, AED 10,000 for the Emirates Skywards DIB Platinum, and AED 15,000 for the Consumer Cashback Platinum, Prime Signature and Emirates Skywards DIB Signature, according to each product page. DIB is the only one of the three largest Islamic banks that prints salary floors on its card pages; ADIB and Emirates Islamic do not.

How is the monthly charge on an Islamic credit card not interest?

Because it is the profit on a sale, not a charge for lending money. On a DIB card you sell commodities to the bank under Salam, the bank pays you in advance and that balance funds your spending; the 3.69% monthly rate is the difference between what the bank paid you and what it sells the commodities for. ADIB executes a commodity Murabaha only when a balance is carried. If you pay in full, DIB's discretionary rebate and ADIB's waiver remove the charge.

Can I withdraw cash on an Islamic covered card?

Yes, at a cost. ADIB charges 3% with a AED 99 minimum, DIB charges 3.15% of the amount, and Emirates Islamic charges 3.15% or AED 103.95, whichever is higher, with each advance limited to AED 10,000 or half the card limit. All three treat foreign currency purchases, cryptocurrency and money orders as cash, and ADIB adds transfers of the card cover to your account and securities purchases. No rewards are earned on cash transactions.

Which Islamic card is best for Emirates Skywards miles?

The Emirates Skywards DIB Signature Covered Card and the Emirates Islamic Skywards Signature both earn 1.5 miles per US dollar on Emirates spend and 0.75 on local spend. DIB's costs AED 1,500 before VAT, needs a AED 15,000 salary and pays up to 30,000 bonus miles; Emirates Islamic's costs AED 735 inclusive and is waived on AED 30,000 of annual spend. ADIB's Skywards Visa Infinite at AED 4,500 adds Gold tier fast track and home check-in.
